about goodera.
your creative partner for content that connects.
Since 2020, goodera has been turning experience-based businesses and service providers into brands their audiences actually want to hear from.

To help further the impact of supporting businesses I believe in, I also give back a portion of every invoice to a community or organization of each client's choice. So far, this has allowed me to give back over $15k—and counting!

Kim Merritt
In case you haven't picked up on this by now, goodera is actually more of a "me" than a "we" (unless you count me and my 219 open browser tabs).

So, hi! I'm Kim, and I'm the strategic copy-loving brain behind goodera. I started this in 2020 as a side hustle while working full-time at an agency. After winning a $10k pitch competition from over 500 applicants and landing several new clients, I quit my 9-5 and went all in on myself in 2024. Now I bring that big-agency expertise directly to businesses I believe in full-time.

When you work with goodera, you work directly with me, Kim.

What makes me legit?
I have a BFA in Advertising from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and have spent 15+ years working at ad agencies throughout New York, London, and Los Angeles. During that time I've dreamt up big ideas and written for some of the world's most recognizable brands (Amazon, REI, and Netflix, to name a few) and celebrities (Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler, and Rashida Jones), while learning from some truly brilliant creatives along the way. My words and ideas have helped my teams win 11 awards, and appeared across everything from TV, radio, print, and out-of-home, to all things digital and social media.

Despite a successful, lucrative career, I left the ad industry for good in 2024—voluntarily leaving my position as Head of Copy for BMW North America on all things digital—to go all in on myself.

Now for a little backstory:
Born and raised in Ohio, I spent my 20s in New York City, the better half of my 30s in Southern California, and a handful of years learning how the world works while traveling to 37 countries.

After realizing I was in an unrelenting, decade-long cycle of ad-industry burnout, one single client interaction in the summer of 2020 led me to an almost too-simple realization:

I like what I do, I just don't like who I do it for.

Rather than give up on my career entirely, I decided to pivot. To use my skills and everything I know from advertising for some of the world's biggest brands, to instead support those who are making a positive impact in their communities and the world. To focus all of that attention and time on something that actually matters. I started goodera that day.

Outside of goodera I'm almost always planning a trip, and can usually be found in the mountains with a camera in hand. Feel free to send me an intro email, check out my personal advertising and photography portfolios here, or connect with me on LinkedIn below.

my values.
My personal values help shape everything I do.

Built on purpose.
In 2024 I walked away from a successful, comfortably-six-figure career and went all in on myself and goodera. I voluntarily stepped off the corporate ladder once I realized my creative problem-solving skills could make a bigger impact by supporting those who are making the world a better place.
After 15+ years working in ad agencies, I shifted gears to help purpose-driven brands stand a chance against their corporate competitors. Now I prioritize supporting others who are driving positive change.

Strategic first. Creative second.
Everything I do is rooted in "why." That means you'll never get a wild creative idea that doesn't make sense for your brand or your business goals.

I believe that good copywriting starts way before the words land on a page. It starts with an idea, and comes to life in a way that connects and drives action. Creativity is just the wrapper that helps us deliver your message in a way that stands out.

No BS. No fluff.
The last thing your brand needs to do is add more noise to the world. If there's not a clear reason for saying something, we're not saying it. I distill messy, complex ideas into clear, compelling messages. I ask questions, poke holes, and refine, refine, refine until something is as good as it can be.

Copy that connects, not just sells.
I don't write for the algorithm, because guess what? It's going to change like, next week. I write for the humans you want to connect with. And I connect the dots between you—your goals, your vision, your brand—and your words.

Also my writing is human-created, not AI-generated. I focus on connecting through shared human experiences and deeply relatable human truths, because I believe people connect with people, not robots.

Big-agency thinking. Solo-studio vibes.
I've worked on huge global brands, and have managed multi-disciplinary teams and dream budgets. Now, I'm bringing that same high-level creative thinking to purpose-driven businesses, without the process or price tag. You get the same brain, just on a scrappier budget and with quicker timelines. And sometimes that brain comes from a campsite in the mountains, because #selfemployedlife.
about the bird.
The goodera logo illustrates how anything is possible with a little bit of creative thinking.
Even though the kiwi is a flightless bird, with some creative problem solving—a helium-filled balloon and some string—it's able to fly.
That's our approach to each new challenge we face: we utilize creative problem solving to help our clients rise up. Plus, you know what they say: birds of a feather...
